As a trend in the State, the Joint Action Committees formed in connection with the death of people in unwanted incidents often refuse to accept the dead bodies from the authorities unless certain demands made by them are fulfilled by the Govt. However, it is the basic ritual of every religion to conduct the last rites soon after a person's death.
The Govt would not shy away from the demands of the JACs even if the dead bodies are taken back by the family members for performing the last rites, Deputy CM averred.
Earlier, delivering the keynote address, Dr Sureshkumar Singh said the centre was set up in 2007 as per a UGC guideline taking into consideration of human rights violation in Manipur which has become a matter of concern.
He suggested that a syllabus on human rights violation must be included up to class 10 level beginning from grassroots level to help minimize such contravention in the state.
The inaugural function of the training programme was also attended by Dean of Students' Welfare, Manipur University RK Hemkumar and retired IAS officer P Saratchandra.
About 250 trainees including leaders of various social organisations, Manipur Police personnel and students from various schools and colleges are taking part in the training programme.
