Imphal, July 30 2021:
Govindas Konthoujam, who recently resigned from the post of president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, primary membership of Congress and membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly, has rushed to the national capital on Friday with high hope of bringing a big change in the political scenario of the state.
While Govindas left Imphal in an Air India flight on Friday at 2.30 pm, sources said that chief minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi are likely to depart for the national capital on Saturday after both were reportedly summoned by the party's central leaders to discuss the evolving political situation in the state.
However, other sources conceded that they are unaware of whether the visit of the chief minister is a routine trip or has anything to do with the resignation of Govindas and his possible entry to the BJP.
On the other hand, Congress MLA Khumukcham Joykisan already left Imphal for Delhi on Thursday and another Congress MLA Yamthong Haokip, who is in Bengaluru, had also reached the national capital a few days back.
Sources said that Govindas is likely to join BJP along with two Congress MLAs and break the news in the presence of national leaders of the party in Delhi.
Govindas is said to be waiting for a schedule to meet BJP national leaders and discuss the political scenario in the state as well as conditions of him joining the saffron party.
He reportedly took the decision with a special agenda in mind and he had met with top brass of RSS before taking the decision, sources said.
The source further said that Govindas is likely to play a major role in the government if he joins the BJP but no relevant details are available in this regard.
Besides, the two Congress MLAs are also likely to get a special place in the BJP government.
Meanwhile, a BJP Manipur Pradesh leader told The People's Chronicle that the state unit of the party has not received any information yet regarding the matter and if they are willing to join the party, they should inform the party's state president and the chief minister beforehand.
So far, the national leaders have not provided any information to the state unit in this regard as well.
