Imphal, August 24 2013 :
Hours af-ter impounding rotten canned fish estimated to worth about Rs 11 lakh from an agency loca-ted at Wahengbam Leikai area yesterday, a joint team of Food Safety & Standards Wing and City police station personnel today raided ABC Godown, Khoyathong leading to seizure of another huge consignment of canned fish carton, declared unfit for human consumption.
The total amount of the im-pounded food item has been put at Rs 13 lakhs Significantly the sardine fish variety seized today belongs to the same Karnataka- based manufacturer namely Ms Sowkar Canning Compa-ny, whose product bearing Sea Cherry Mackerel brand was impounded yesterday.
Canned fish seized today belongs to one Ms Meetei Traders with the agent identified as one Yengkhom Santi- kumar of Thangmeiband Lou-rung Purel Leikai.
The agent contended that inspite of receiving the consignment in February this year from the Karnataka company he had not distributed them to the retailers but instead decided to store them at ABC Godown, a transport agency.

The raid involved Designated Officer (Food Safety) S Bimolakumari, Food Safety Officer (IW) Y Seityajit, FSO (Churachandpur) Th Sunilkumar and City police office in-charge.
The said team also carried out a drive at Masjid Road during which 50 'sardines in brine and oil' cans, manufactured by Seahath Canning Company, Goa were impounded from one Ms Piyus Store for non-compliance to prescribed norms of Food Safety and Standards.
Informing that the latter canned fish brand was also rotten, FSOs said the agent has been identified and due process for appropriate action would be initiated at the earliest possible.
They further reminded that sale of all the canned fish brands seized today as well as yesterday was already prohibited with an official notification issued earlier this year.
