Three pedestrians hurt in bomb blast near Lamphel DC office

Imphal, August 24 2013 :
A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at Naoremthong Laishram Leikai, close to Lamphel DC Office Complex in Imphal West district, leaving three hurt early morning today.
On the other hand, hand grenades, one each were found near the Blood Bank of RIMS and at the residence of Chief Engineer (Mechanical and Electrical) of PDW at Khuyathong today.
The IED explosion took place at around 5:45 am today at Naoremthong Laishram Leikai, around a hundred yards from Lamphel DC Office.
Reports suggested that the IED was triggered apparently targeting a CRPF convoy but it left three civilian pedestrians injured.
The three injured who have been admitted to RIMS and JNIMS for treatment have been identified as Laishram Nimai (30), s/o late L Shyamjai of Naoremthong Laishram Leikai; Sanasam Jiten (49), s/o late S Budhi of the same locality and Lovejoy (30), s/o Sender from Ukhrul district's Chingai but presently staying at RIMS Quarter, Lamphel.
All three of them sustained splinter injuries on their hands and legs.

The bomb fixed at the foot of an electric transformer went off as the convoy of 143 CRPF Battalion overtook the spot, eye witnesses said.
The convoy included a bullet proof vehicle and a water carrier vehicle.
According to eye witnesses the bomb, which was fixed by unidentified armed miscreants near an electric transformer exploded all of a sudden just after a convoy of 143 CRPF Battalion passed the spot.

Soon after the report of the blast reached, a team of Lamphel police led by its OC Ibomcha rushed in to the spot to take stock of the situation.
A team of Manipur Police Commandos also arrived and carried out an intense search operation in the area.
It is believed that the bomb could be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) .
Meanwhile, locals of Naoremthong staged a sit-in-protest demonstration condemning the bomb blast and demanded the group involved in the incident to come out with a clarification at the earliest possible.
On the other hand, a hand grenade was found at the gate of Mutum Haimo (59), Chief Engineer (Mechanical and Electrical), PWD, s/o M Radheshyam at Khuyathong at around 5:55 am today.
The hand grenade, which was found without its lever, was later recovered by bomb experts and defused it safely at the Langol dumping site around 10 am. Another bomb was also found near the Blood Bank of RIMS this afternoon at around 4:30.The bomb was found along the footpath to the south of the Blood Bank by the gardener of RIMS.
It was also without its lever.
The bomb was later picked up by bomb experts.
