Imphal, February 11 2013:
Casting serious aspersions on the Airports Authority of India, Tulihal airport, a written complaint has been despatched to the Regional Executvie Director of Airports Authority of India, LGB International Airport, Guwahati, alleging that a private travel agency has been allowed to run and operate at the terminal building of Imphal airport.
Talking to The Sangai Express a reliable source informed that the complaint, dated, January 3, 2013 has been despatched to Guwahati to look into the matter.
The written complaint stated that a private travel agency has been running its office/ticketing counter along side Indigo Airlines Counter for some time now and questioned how a private entity is allowed or permitted to function from a Government run airport like Imphal, under the very nose of Airports Authority of India.
The complaint however acknowledged that all airline companies/carriers operating in and out of Imphal are functioning from Imphal Airport and as such they are allowed to open their ticketing counters/offices at Imphal Airport.
On being contacted, the Joint General Manager, Airports Authority of India, Tulihal Airport however clarified that there is nothing amiss in allowing the said private enterprise to open its office at the airport premises.
The Joint General Manager further said that this is the practise all over the country and added that the private agency was granted permission to open its counter after due tender was floated.
This is under the commercial policy of Airport Authority of India, he explained further.
