Imphal, November 01 2015 :
Government spokesman and Education Minister M Okendro has categorically stated that BJP is not suitable to the soil of Manipur, and the party should always be kept at a safe distance.
Besides being communal to the core, BJP is quite adept in devising and implementing 'divide and rule' policies, Okendro said while addressing an election meeting of Congress candidate in Thongju A/C Bijoy Koijam held today at Akampat community hall (Thiyam Leirak) .
Presence of a BJP-led Government at the Centre would not have any impact on the political configuration of Manipur.
Perhaps Bijoy Koijam has already been punished for the mistakes and wrongdoings he committed.
But it would be a bit too much to punish a man twice, said Okendro while appealing to all the electorate of Thongju A/C not to punish Bijoy Koijam any more.
The primary objectives of forming a Government is serving the public to a satisfactory level and bring rapid development.
Ruling MLAs always get greater shares when it comes to appointment in Government departments and execution of development programmes.
No development programmes could be executed in Thongju A/C comprehensively because the people elected a man who sat on the Opposition bench, Okendro said.
In order to make up development deficits and execute development programmes which could not be executed in the last three years, Bijoy Koijam ought to be elected this time, Okendro said.
Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra said that the by-election has been necessitated because the former MLA did not respect the people's mandate given to him.
It would be ridiculous if a disqualified man is re-elected.
Meghachandra said and questioned how Th Bishwajit could not retain his MLA seat while O Lukhoi who was disqualified together with him was able to retain his seat.
MLA Ksh Biren said that Thongju A/C has been lagging in development activities following the election of an MLA who sat on the Opposition bench.
It is the people of Thongju A/C to decide whether to elect an MLA who would be e member of the Government or someone else who would again seat on the Opposition bench.
He then asked how many people are there in BJP Manipur Pradesh who would win any Assembly seat.
Bijoy Koijam dismissed BJP's allegation that two MLAs were disqualified by the Speaker at the behest of the Chief Minister.
It was the 10th Schedule enacted during the previous BJP-led Government at the Centre which prohibited hopping from one party to another that led to disqualification of the two MLAs.
It is again BJP which has been acting in contravention of the same schedule, he added.
