Eco blockade suspended

Imphal, March 26 2011:
Following an understanding with the Government, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has suspended its highway blockade with effect from midnight.
Talking to The Sangai Express, ATSUM spokesperson Joseph Hmar said ATSUM leaders and the State Govt struck an agreement at the level of the Chief Minister after a meeting this afternoon.
The Government reportedly agreed to fulfil ATSUM's demands within a specific time frame.
Regarding the demand not to recruit senior MCS officers as Executive Directors of DRDAs, the Govt assured to make a better, alternative arrangement within five months, Joseph said.
However, the issue of reservation is still pending in the Supreme Court.
With the two sides coming to an agreement coupled with the CM's assurance, ATSUM has decided to call off the highway blockade from this midnight.
