Man dies, family suspects foul play

A man died under suspicious circumstances after he went out of his home with Rs.40,000 to get back some mortgaged gold ornaments.
The deceased has been identified as Md Islamuddin (22), s/o Md Hesamuddin of Sora in Thoubal district, but presently staying at Hatta Golapati in Imphal-East.
Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, the deceased Islamuddin's mother Ibecha said that his son married one Rahamani (21) from Thoubal Laitonpok and they have been blessed with a one and half year old son.
However, the couple got divorced on mutual agreement on February 16 last month.
Rahamani's family demanded Islamuddin to give back the gold ornaments which were gifted as dowry at the time of their marriage.
Islamuddin went out of his home at around 8 am yesterday to get back the mortgaged gold ornaments and also to take his son from his divorced wife.
However, one of Rahamani's aunts called up her and informed that his son had consumed poison and he had been admitted to Thoubal District Hospital, Ibecha said.
Islamuddin passed away at around 6 am today at the hospital.
There were several bruises and injury marks on his body.
He was beaten up to death by his divorced wife's family, Ibecha alleged.
She further demanded the authorities concerned to investigate his son's death and punish the culprits at the earliest.
