In a significant boost to the Manipur BJP, Manipur People's Party (MPP), the oldest regional political outfit in the State, has announced its stand to forge alliance with the former in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
The decision was taken during a meeting of MPP's Central Committee yesterday following which formal letters have been forwarded to BJP National President Rajnath Singh and State party unit President Th Chaoba Singh, MPP President N Sovakiran told mediapersons at the party's office here today.
Sovakiran said the party's decision to go with the saffron party aims at routing the Congress in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in both the Outer and inner Parliamentary Constituencies.

He disclosed that in the letters dispatched to the BJP leaders, the key issues of the State such as the Merger Agreement of 1949 which promised to protect Manipur, introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP), eradication of corruption and poverty, keeping the State under Special Category status have been mentioned and urged to include in the party's manifesto.
Lashing out at Congress, the MPP chief alleged thousands of lives have perished in the State in the last one decade under Congress rule.
Not only this, many were killed in Punjab's Golden Temple by the then Congress Government following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi besides thousands were slaughtered during the bifurcation of India and Pakistan, he further alleged.
MPP's stand to defeat the Congress always remains firm, Sovakiran added.
Acknowledging that the Congress has 42 legislators in the State Assembly, the MPP chief asserted that the number of anti-Congress people at the same time has shot up in the State because of its alleged misrule.
Sovakiran pledged that his party will always try its best to root out the Indian National Congress (INC) in the two-phase general elections in the State.
