Imphal, December 06 2011:
CPI Manipur State Council has launched a campaign against the UPA Government's initiative to allow 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail from today.
Speaking at the launching function of the campaign at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI National Council Member Moirangthem Nara cautioned that there would be more divisions on communal lines if the UPA Government's plan to allow FDI in retail sector is put into action.
The launching function was also attended by CPI secretary Langol Iboyaima, AITUC Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar, B Sharma and A Lala.
The group of seven countries led by the USA and known as G-7 has been exerting strong pressure on different countries to allow foreign direct investment in retail trade.
The UPA Government led by Congress party is also working to allow 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail trade in the country.
Implementation of such FDI policy in India where the majority are living in the below poverty line would trigger multiple fragmentation of India, Dr Nara cautioned.
This would also sharpen the divide between the rich and poor and also between different communities, he stated.
He called upon all the people to stand united and firm against the Congress party's plan to implement FDI policy in India.
Langol Iboyaima said that extensive awareness programme would be organised together with experts and scholars during the campaign in order to educate the mass about the possible negative impacts of the FDI policy.
