Senapati, November 02 2015:
The 10 days blockade imposed by the United Naga Council against the passing of the three Bills and a resolution by the State Assembly on August 31, has come into force.
The blockade will be in force till November 12 .
Earlier in the day, heavy rush of commercial trucks and goods carriers to get through before the 10 days economic blockade came into force could be seen.
In Senapati district, the Naga Peoples' Organization (NPO) has spelt out its mode of imposing the blockade.
According to NPO sources, movement of commercial goods carriers, tankers, empty and loaded trucks and carrying of goods by inter-State buses will be strictly prohibited by the volunteers during the blockade.
The apex body of Senapati district added that as per the strong directives of the UNC to all district apex bodies and tribe Hohos, volunteers will be deployed at different points along NH-2 to effectively enforce the blockade.
Therefore, any violation of the economic blockade by any vehicle or attempt to do so will be doing so at their own risk, for which any consequences will not be the responsibility of the Naga civil bodies or tribe Hohos.
The decision of the NPO to even restrict movement of empty trucks, escorted oil tankers and bullet vehicles or any commercial vehicles has come a day after the UNC issued another statement of going ahead with the proposed economic blockade to protest the three 'infamous Bills' and the two resolutions passed by the Assembly on August 31.The UNC had earlier issued a directive to all civil bodies in the hill districts and tribe Hohos to impose the 10 day economic blockade.
However, as per the UNC's decision, life saving items will be exempted from the preview of the bandh.
The economic blockade will also be in protest against the indifference of the Government of India despite the series of bandhs, rallies, dharnas, public curfews and submission of numerous representations to the Government of India (GoI) to intervene in the passing of the 3 Bills and the 2 resolutions and to also address the political aspirations of the tribal people.
