TDDC reiterates district demand

Tongjei Maril District Demand Committee (TDDC) has reiterated its demand for creation of Tongjei Maril district.
In a statement, TDDC urged CM O Ibobi Singh, Dy CM Gaikhangam and others to extend support and implement the demand for creation of Tongjei Maril district.
The TDDC said, as per 2011 census, there are over 1 lakh population in the proposed district, covering 951 sq kms.
The committee met different leaders and voluntary organisations recently to mobilise the district demand movement.
A consultative meeting was held at Langol Laimanai on Oct 21 last which was attended by various members of TDDC including Abungba Kamson, Gangam Pamei, Thondukai Kamei and Dingkham Akham Gonmei.
The delegates decided to convene a public meeting in Khoupum valley and Noney areas to chart out the next course of action.
The proposed Tongjei Maril district is to be bounded by Lower Lukhambi (NH-37), Tamenglong district in the North; Tuangtu and Taiphai (Thalon) Nungsai Khullen, Chothe Munpi of Henglep subdivision and Bijang of Ccpur district in the South; Keithelmanbi and Chinikon, Saitu AC (Sadar Hills) in the East and Gularthol PS and Kaiphundai, Tousem subdivision in the West.
The TDDC submitted its first memo for the creation of the district to the then CM of Manipur RK Ranbir Singh during the 90s, it said.
