Four gang rape accused get three more days additional remand

Imphal, March 18 2020:
Four individuals allegedly involved in the gang rape of a married woman, were today, remanded by Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal West I, into three more days in police custody (till March 20) .
The accused individuals, identified as Karnajeet Konsam (30) s/o Joykumar of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai, Ningombam Johnson (29) s/o Iboyaima of Sagolband Mutum Leikai, Yengkokpam Hemachandra (36) s/o Ibocha of Charangpat Maning Maklang (Thoubal) and Phijam Vivigiri (33) s/o Tombi of Kairembikhok Awang Leikai, were produced before the Court following the completion of 10 days police remand.
During the proceeding, Rattana Ngasepam (Additional SP, Investigative Unit, Crime against Women, Imphal West), the IO of the case, narrated that on March 8, the victim filed a complaint claiming that the previous day (March 7) she was sexually assaulted by the four individuals.
Police arrested all four individuals on the same day (March 8) and on interrogation, all of them admitted to the charges levelled against them.
The police also recorded the victim's statement during which she claimed that she was raped by the four individuals inside a rented house belonging to Yengkokpam Hemachandra.
The IO explained that the investigation is in full swing and police have seized undergarments of all the accused and their blood samples are yet to be sent for DNA analysis.
However, police are yet to seize a two wheeler which was allegedly used by one of the accused in the commission of the crime, the IO informed, praying for further police custody remand of the four individuals for smooth investigation of the case.
After hearing the submission of the IO and going through the materials on record, the Court remanded all four accused to 3 more days in police custody (till March 20) .
