Tamenglong totally shut by UNC bandh

Tamenglong, August 12, 2013:
The 48-hour total bandh imposed by United Naga Council (UNC) to press the Government of India to hold the next round of tripartite talks on 'Alternative Arrangement' for the Nagas of Manipur, severely affected normal life of the people residing in Tamenglong District on Monday.
All inter-state passenger buses, Taxi and Sumo services remained suspended today.
The total bandh will be continued till midnight of 13 August, 2013.However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the course of the bandh so far.
Apart from closure of shops, markets, institutions, government offices, the local people came out in large number to enforce the bandh.
The bandh supporters used bamboo stick and catapult to control the movement of the local people in town area.
The movement of vehicular traffic was also restricted during the bandh which is being supported by frontal organisations of Tamenglong.
In the meantime, the frontal organizations have also launched a non-cooperation movement in Tamenglong district Hqs to exert pressure on the government to start construct work on the deplorable Tamenglong- Khongsang road.
As a result of the movement, all the schools and institutions in the district HQs abstained themselvesfrom taking part in the rehearsal for the forthcoming Independence Day celebration in Tamenglong.
The Independence football tournament was also halted on Monday.
The rehearsal for the forth coming Independence Day celebration in Tamenglong was attended by only civil police, 5th Manipur Rifles, VDF and 5th Unit School of 5th Manipur Rifles today.
