Monitor lizard, Tokay Gecko rescued

Volunteers of People for Animals (PFA), Thoubal have rescued one Minitor Lizard and one Tokay Gecko.
At about 3 pm yesterday, PFA Thoubal was informed that one Puyam Nando Singh of Langathel Mayai Leikai about a rare lizard which was found in the pond of his garden.
Volunteers of PFA Thoubal immediately rushed and rescued the lizard, which turned out to be a Monitor Lizard of 1.5 ft long.
Before the volunteers could change their uniforms, they also got information about another rare lizard found in the kitchen garden of one Lourebam Ingobi Singh of Thoubal Wangmataba.
It turned out to be a young Tokay Gecko, which might have escaped out of a hidden enclosure or freed by the owner as it attracts no customers because of its imputed tail.

Both the rescued reptiles would be released back to the wild with the advice of Wildlife Dept, L.Biswajeet Meitei, Managing Director of PFA Thoubal said, adding that catching of wild animals and handing them over to the zoo is not wildlife conservation.
