Imphal, June 12 2013:
In an apparent major blunder, eight students, who had been already declared failed in the Class X examination result announced on May 20, were found passed during re-evaluation of papers.
Among these eight students, three students turned out to be 1st Divisioners with one student scoring 83.2 percent while five students were found passed in 2nd Division.
Students whose roll numbers are 27318, 2421 and 3575 secured 1st Division while students with roll numbers 4401, 11225, 17474, 27111, 24072 passed in 2nd Division.
Taking serious note of the goof-up, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) decried the negligence of BOSEM.
In a press conference held at the library hall of AMSU headquarters, AMSU Human Resource Development Secretary Manjit Sarangthem expressed suspicion that hundreds of passed students might have declared failed in past examinations.
He further said that similar cases had already been witnessed in past years as well.
Speaking further on the recent goof-up of BOSEM, Majit said that Hijam Kangleicha Luwang (27318) was declared failed in the examination result declared on May 20 .
According to the marksheet earlier provided by the Board, Kangleicha scored 59 in Manipuri, 87 in English, 99 in Mathematics, 91 in Science and 26 in Social Science.
As he was not satisfied with the marks he scored in Social Science, Kangleicha sought re-evaluation of Social Science paper.
Similarly, eight other students also requested the Board for re-evaluation of papers.
After having re-check of their papers, Board Secretary L Rajmohon, in a result corrigendum issued on May 25, declared eight out of nine students passed.
Manjit Sarangthem urged the concerned to do the needful in this regard so that such blunders do not occur in future.
Taking part in the press conference, Kangleicha's guardian Manihar Luwang questioned why Board staff was not concerned with the fact that a student who scored 99 in Maths, 91 in Science and 87 in English could score only 6 in Social Science.
As the result gave a huge trauma to Kangleicha, his guardians submitted a written application to the Board seeking re-evaluation the next day.
However, a responsible Board staff refused to accept the application saying that the result was the outcome of not taking tuition in Social Science.
Peeved with the attitude of the staff, Kangleicha's guardian approached Education Minister's PRO and pressurised the Board to conduct re-evaluation.
Upon re-evaluation, it was found that Kangleicha scored 60 instead of 6 in external paper of Social Science.
Adding his 20 internal marks, he scored 80 out of 100 marks in the subject.
Saying that every student who were failed in single subject must seek for re-evaluation, Manihar also suggested the Board staff to be careful in future and fix responsibilities so that the culprit may be easily detected in future goof-ups.
