Imphal, June 12 2013:
All Manipur Students Guardian Organisation (AMSGO) has urged the State Government to bring an early solution to the issue of MBBS, BDS entrance test and Class XI admission in some Government schools.
In a press conference held at its office at Palace Compound, secretary organisation of AMSGO, S Sumati said that holding of State PMT would be the only solution to the current issue of MBBS, BDS entrance test.
She said that the State Government issued 6718 application forms to hold State PMT.
Out of this, 5756 candidates submitted application forms along with Rs 200 to appear in the examination.
Later, admit cards were issued to the candidates after submitting a bank draft of Rs 600 each.
S Sumati further said that the examination was cancelled after admit cards were issued.
Saying that the State Government's move is tantamount to jeopardising the academic career of the students, she also suggested the parents of these candidates to challenge the decision of the Government at Hight Court.
She also urged the MLAs to discuss the issue in the State Assembly.
Regarding Class XI admission, S Sumati said that fixing of 50 percent mark for admission in TG Higher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School is objectionable.
She also suggested the Government to reserve seats at these schools for those students who have passed HSLC examination from Government schools.
Questioning whether percentage of marks alone can decide the merit of a student, S Sumati said that there are many meritorious students who could not score good marks due to poverty.
She also urged the Education Minister to translate his promise to admit 500 students each in the premier Government higher secondary schools of Imphal area into action.
