Imphal, August 04, 2012:
"If we need to understand the problems faced by the people of the state and the issues involved, we need to go down to the grassroots level reaching far flung hill areas," exclaimed Prof M Horam, retired Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University.
Prof M Horam was speaking as Chief Guest of a day-long symposium on "Understanding Political Science in the context of Manipur" organized by Manipur Political Science Association at Manipur College here today.
Prof Horam observed that Manipur is a land inhabited by different communities with different cultures and traditions.
So, it is essential to understand and respect each other.
The people of the valley should reach out to the people of the hills and mix around with each other so as to bring peace and development in the state.
The people in Manipur should try to understand why there are so much chaos in the society with frequent bandhs and blockades, thereby increasing the problems of the people.
Researchers and experts need to put all their theories into practice and help the people in solving the problems of the society, Prof Horam said.
He went on to state that as Manipuris we don't need to understand the political scenario of developed western countries like England and USA.
In fact, we need to study the political nature of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria and the South East Asian countries.
The students of the state should be taught about all these through their prescribed school syllabus.
Prof Ksh Bimola, who was also present on the occasion as Guest of Honour, said that changes come in a society and this is natural, but it would be more appropriate if the changes are made to arrive in the right way.
A change which is in tune with our societal set up is always welcomed.
The symposium was presided over by Dr H Indrakumar, Head of Political Science Department, Modern College.
