Imphal, August 04, 2012:
The Joint Students Co-ordination Committee (JSCC), a conglomeration of six student bodies of the state, has appealed to all the private and government institutions to organize Patriots' Day observance on August 13 in the most significant manner.
Addressing media persons at the office of SUK here today, A Thoithoi, member of JSCC said that August 13 is being observed every year as Patriot's Day in remembrance of the day when Thangal General and Yuvaraj Tikendrajit were hanged in public by the British on alleged charge of waging war against the British Crown.
However, of late, such an important day is being observed with no sense of patriotism in the minds and hearts of the people as the present society is becoming corrupted.
People tend to think only about themselves forgetting the welfare of all.
People have lost the idea of nationalism and patriotism.
So, it is high time that we all come together and work for the betterment of the society irrespective of our caste and creed.
L Umakanta, Convener of JSCC, said that students in present society have been carried away by drugs and the sense of patriotism has failed to excite their mind and soul.
So in order to inculcate this sense of nationalism and patriotism among the students, all institutions of the state should observe Patriots day in the most accurate manner.
It would be of great help towards promotion of nationalism and the six student bodies would be grateful if the Education Minister instructs all the institutions to observe the Patriots' Day, Umakanta added.
