Kangpokpi basks under beautification programme

Kicking off its Town Beautification Programe, Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU) has planted 1000 Gulmohor saplings in and around Kangpokpi town today.
Around 200 individuals including members of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Auto Association (Kangpokpi) and Kangpokpi Youth Union took part in the tree plantation drive.
Plantation of the saplings started from Zonal Education Office Complex, Kangpokpi via Districtict Council, Kangpokpi and proceeded toward NH-2 and ended at ADC, Complex Kangpokpi in the presence of ADC, Kangpokpi H.Rupachandra Singh.
Speaking on the sideline of the drive, General Secretary of KYU Lien Kipgen said that KYU took the initiative of planting Gulmohor saplings as part of the Town Beautification Programme after giving prior notification to all the heads of Departments (Goverment offices in Kangpokpi) for their participation.
However, as expected, officials of some of the departments failed to turn up although heads of departments responded positively.
"We are very thankful for their co-operation", said Lien.
Similar notification had also been given to all the hotel(s) owners in Kangpokpi to keep their hotels neat and tidy, deal with their customers properly and use filtered water for safety, he informed, and added that KYU is planning to execute more effective town beautification programme in the coming days.
Information & Publicity Secretary of KYU Ginna Hangshing conveyed that the saplings were donated by Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi.
The Auto Association, Kangpokpi also donated two diesel auto for transportation of the saplings to the work site while ADC, Kpi H Rupachandra Singh, NYK, Youth Co-ordinator RK Singh, Mrs Ngahchong Kipgen, ZEO,Kpi, Horticulture department provided refreshment.
On the other hand, KYU has extended its best wishes the 5 times world women boxing champion MC Mary Kom, who is representing India in the ongoing London Olympic, 2012, for her grand success.
In this connection, Lien Kipgen informed that in support of Mary Kom in particular and the London Olympians from India in general, the Union would be organizing a public gathering at Kangpokpi Bazar on August 5 night to watch and cheer Mary Kom through a giant screen.
