Chandel, August 04, 2012:
While welcoming the plan of the state government to set up a model town at Thangbung Mino village along Indo Myanmar Border Pillar No 74, 75 and 76, Chief of the village TS Thurhring has categorically asserted that prior consent of the villagers should be taken before executing the project.
Addressing a press meet today at Chandel, TS Thurhring said that people of the village have been taking shelter in Chandel Headquarters since 1993 after the communal riot which broke out between the Nagas and Kukis.
The village has been included in the Manipur Gazette as a village for Anal people.
However, it is unfortunate that some people have changed the name of the village for setting up of the proposed model town.
People of the village have no objection as such to the development of the village as a model town, but the Government officials should discuss the matter with the people and chief of the village only and not with some third party, the chief added.
