Imphal, November 02 2011:
Supporters of the UNC-sponsored counter economic blockade intercepted passenger buses coming through Senapati Bazar along the National Highways 39 today and pulled down sacks of Peas, Chillies and boxes of Khaini and scattered them all around.
The incident took place just a few metres away from Senapati Bazar and right in front of a large number of security personnel who were deployed on duty in connection with the visit of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to Senapati district.
The counter blockade supporters also confiscated petrol and other petroleum products which were found being carried in jerrycans, though they did not object to filling of fuel in the oil tanks of the vehicles from Senapati.
In every nook and corner of Senapati district, it could be seen that Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has put up 'public notice' declaring that counter blockade is effective in all Naga inhabited areas and the confiscated goods should not be returned to the owners.
It may be noted that UNC announced counter blockade against the indefinite economic blockade imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee along the National Highways passing through Manipur.
On the other hand, in pursuance of the 'Alternative Arrangement' demand, various Naga frontal organizations including UNC, ANSAM have imposed public curfew in Senapati Bazar area every day from 12 noon to 1 pm since October 15 .
The market remained closed during the curfew hour.
