School vans off the road, queues still on

Imphal, November 02 2011:
For the general public of Manipur who have been suffering untold misery for a protracted period because of the twin blockades on National Highways leading to Imphal, the decision of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) to lift the more than 90 days old blockade has meant very little.
The woeful state of affairs has changed very little with the United Naga Council continuing with its blockade on both the National Highways.
School vans suspended their service today as they have to spent long hours in serpentine queues to get a few litres of petrol.
Like in the past months, essential commodities are still scarce in markets and they are being sold at
hiked prices.
School van driver I Ratan said that he was standing in queue since 6 am at Bakliwal Enterprises (oil pump) here at North AOC.

The queue was so long that Ratan could get petrol only at 11.30 am.
With police preventing queues at night, some people woke up at 2 or 3 in the morning to stand in front of queues for a few litres of petrol.
Ratan said that his initial position in the queue was at LMS Law College.
Like Ratan, all van drivers working under the All Manipur School Students Transporters' Association suspended their daily service of taking students to and from schools.
