ATSUM, TWA, others laud Mirabai Chanu

All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) conveyed its extreme happiness and congratulated Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on opening the medal tally for India in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 .
According to our Kangpokpi correspondent, ATSUM youth affairs and sports secretary Lamcha Chongloi said that the daughter of the soil makes not only the state proud but also the nation as a whole by clinching a Silver medal in the Olympic games and it indeed is a proud moment for the state.
He continued that ATSUM also prayed to the Almighty for other athletes from the state representing the great nation in the Tokyo Olympic 2020 to perform well and bring laurels to make India proud in general and the state in particular.
He pointed out that out of a total 127 athletes from India, Manipuri athletes excluding Mirabai Chanu are MC Mary Kom in boxing, Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Nilakanta Sharma in Women's and Men's Hockey respectively and Likmabam Sushila in Judo.
ATSUM sports secretary also wished them the very best and good luck.
Thadou Women's Association, General Headquarters also conveyed its sincere appreciation and congratulations to Mirabai Chanu on winning the Silver Medal in Women's 49 kg category Weightlifting on July 24 .
TWA secretary general Roina Kipgen said that Mirabai conquered fear and won the race for the nation.
While heartily congratulating Mirabai Chanu on her immense success, the Association also prayed and wished her more success in her future endeavours while adding that she is the most excellent example for all the women in India.
Congratulatory messages also continued to pour in for Mirabai Chanu from various sections of the society with many wishing her more greatness and success in her future endeavours.
In separate statements, Meitei Council Moreh (MCM), All Manipur Nupi Marup, Leihou Khunai Kanba Luptin (LKKL), Co-ordinating Body Khurai and Communist Party of India Lamlai Local Council congratulated Mirabai Chanu on her achievement and also wished her great success in future events.
Similarly, Communist Party of India Central Office in a letter addressed to Mirabai's father Kirti Singh extended congratulations on his daughter's achievement at the Tokyo Olympics.
The letter signed by Central Office general secretary D Raja said the fact that Mirabai rose to the level of an Olympic medal winner despite being born in a very poor family makes one and all world over proud and corroborated that achievements are no more the monopoly of the rich and their siblings.
"As her mother says she used to carry firewood on her head for the kitchen.
The party is enthused by seeing a girl coming from a downtrodden family bagging one of the highest sports medal," D Raja said and urged party's Manipur State Council to hold warm reception for Mirabai Chanu.
International Sanamahism Students' Association also congratulated Mirabai Chanu on her achievement.
The organisation also wished success to judoka Likmabam Sushila in the future.
