Govt appoints Mirabai as ASP, promotes Sushila

Chief Minister N Biren announced that the state government has decided to appoint Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the police department and to promote Judoka Likmabam Sushila to of sub-inspector of police.
The CM made the announcement during an inspection visit of the ongoing installation of Cryogenic Oxygen Plant at Porompat and the construction of COVID hospital by DRDO at Kyamgei on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, Biren informed that Mirabai Chanu would also be rewarded Rs 1 crore as announced by the government earlier.
Judoka Sushila would also be promoted from the post of constable to Sub-Inspector.
As announced, the government will provide Rs 25 lakh cash reward to all sportspersons from the state who participated in the Olympics even if they do not win any medals.
As for the remaining three athletes, the government will decide their rewards other than the cash incentive based on their performance, the CM said.
Maintaining that systematic planning is necessary to prepare the state athletes to win gold in the next Olympics, the CM also announced that the state government has decided to establish a World Class Weightlifting Academy in the state soon.
Mirabai will be the leading coach in the academy, he added.
Replying to a query regarding extension of curfew, the CM said that the meeting of Technical Committee on COVID-19 which is scheduled for Monday evening will discuss extension of the curfew with relaxations on few essential services for the welfare of the public.
There were reports of Amazon delivery service providers gathering in violation of SOPs in Khurai area, which is a matter of concern.
Considering such negligence on the part of the public and the current trend of the pandemic, lifting the restriction is not an option, he said.
Considering the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the government would be setting up Community COVID Care Centres in all the constituencies with support from MLAs, DCs and local clubs.
Free meals would be provided to the inmates by the government, he added.
During the visit, the CM also informed that a 20 KL Cryogenic Oxygen Plant at Porompat, two PSA Oxygen Plants at JNIMS COVID Block, PSA Oxygen Plants at Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel would be inaugurated on July 31.The Chief Minister was accompanied by deputy chairman of State Planning Board L Rameshwor Meetei, principal secretary (health) V Vumlunmang, director (health) Dr K Rajo, director (JNIMS) professor L Deben and other officials of health department.
