Rajnath Singh, AR units pay homage to Kargil heroes

Union defence minister Rajnath Singh paid homage to the fallen heroes on the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on Monday.
The defence minister laid wreath in the honour of the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation during India's victory in 'Operation Vijay' in 1999, also known as Kargil conflict.
In his message in the visitors' book at the National War Memorial, Rajnath said the nation will never forget the sacrifice made by the gallant heroes of Indian Armed Forces.
He added that the grateful nation will always be indebted to their courage and continue to follow their ideals.
MoS defence Ajay Bhatt, Chief of the Air Staff air chief marshal RKS Bhadauria, Chief of the Army Staff general MM Naravane, Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) vice admiral Atul Kumar Jain also paid homage to the Kargil martyrs along with senior civil and military officials of Ministry of Defence.
During the Kargil conflict, the gallant soldiers of the Indian Army, with the help of Indian Air Force, overcame insurmountable odds, hostile terrain and inclement weather to win against the enemy that had occupied dominating heights.
On this momentous occasion, the proud nation is celebrating the victory by remembering the fallen heroes through various events across the country, informed PIB (DW) in a statement.
On the other hand, 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector/IGAR (E) organised wreath laying ceremony in Tamenglong on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
According to the statement, the Commandant led the unit in paying it's homage to fallen national heroes including five from the state and also flagged off a mobile Jhanda Yatra (Flag Rally) to further spread the message of peace, prosperity and happiness along with the Indian Army/Assam Rifles.
The unit Rifle women carried the national flag during the rally and it traversed through various roads and by lanes of the town, said the PIB release.
In the evening the unit band played mesmerising melodies filling the national feelings in the air, sharing the joy of victory the unit organised similar activities all across the Tamenglong district and T Waichung sub division of Kangpokpi district, it added.
Churachandpur sector Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) also celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas at Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Noney and Pherzawl districts on Monday.
To commemorate the victory of Indian Army during the Kargil War and honour the supreme sacrifice of 527 valiant soldiers, a webinar was organised on 'Operation Vijay' to spread awareness on glorious history of Indian Army and instil the feeling of nationalism and pride amongst the local populace, said a release issued by PRO IGAR (S).
The webinar was attended by local youths as well as various CSOs, Village chiefs and ESMs, it added.
SENAPATI: Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi sector/ IGAR(E) on Monday remembered its martyred soldiers who made supreme sacrifice in the Kargil War.
The anniversary is observed each year across the nation to show respect and gratitude to the brave servicemen of the armed forces.
To honour the Kargil War heroes who laid down their lives for the country, officiating commandant, all officers, JCOs, OR and families paid tributes to and remembered the martyred soldiers.
At the same time, the Assam Rifles also assured that in case of need the force will match with the pace of Indian Army and will not leave any stone unturned to safeguard the country.
