CCpur, April 26 2020:
The Zomi Chiefs' Association GHQ has today expressed their resentment over the inscription at Maharaja Chandrakirti Park, Tongzang village in Singngat sub-division.
The park which is in the final stage of development reportedly had an inscription which reads, 'to commemorate his victory over the rebel Lushai chiefs' .
This the ZCA claimed, 'is baseless as the incident never occurred' .
A statement issued by the chiefs' body said Raja Chadrakirti had made an attempt with about 1500 of his army to capture Tedim township in January 1857 but was repelled by Sukte, Kamhau, Guite and Sihzang chiefs.
The chiefs have even confiscated 287 barrels of guns from the invading Raja who returned to Imphal with about 20 of his men.
General Nuthall led a team of about 2000 men and set up a camp at Chivu in between December 15, 1871, to March 7, 1872, but never fought with the Lushais, it added while contending that there is no basis on what was written at the park.
On March 7, 1872, the Manipur Column enticed Raja Goukhothang Guite from Chivu and took him to Imphal Jail, where he died on April 30, 1872 .
The chiefs association further asserted that they condemn and does not accept the activities currently carried out at Chivu based on lies and that bully public sentiments.
