Imphal, February 20 2013:
Reacting to the news report "Hmar Students Association (HSA) Condemns Military Operation", Assam Rifles has strongly rejected the allegations that have been made against 46 Assam Rifles.
In a statement, PIB Defence Wing asserted that the information given in the report does not reflect the true incident and has been twisted and put in a manner benefitting the Hmar Students Association (HAS) whereas nothing of this sort has happened on ground.
It may be noted that HSA has no role in the present Suspension of Operations agreement to which HPC (D) is a signatory.
It is very surprising to note the HPC (D), whose chairman's house was searched, has no objection to the incident (NOC obtained and clearance given by the house owner), while HSA has leveled allegations against the Assam Rifles.
The operation was launched based on a specific intelligence of presence of few cadres with weapons in the suspected house in Churachandpur town.
The commander of the operation did exercise due restraint and extended all basic courtesies while conducting the operation.
No individual was hurt or manhandled during the conduct of the entire operation and no one was picked up by the Assam Rifles.
It is worth mentioning that on reaching the suspected house, it was noted that owner was not well.
Therefore, the operation was immediately called off to avoid any further inconvenience, the PIB Defence Wing statement informed.
On further enquiry, Jt Secy HSA, Emmanuel L Pulamate denied having provided such information to the media and rendered a handwritten statement against the allegations, the statement said, adding that Assam rifles is committed towards maintaining peace and harmony in the area and will never commit any act to disturb the secure environment of the district.
