Imphal, January 19 2015:
The Nambashi High School which was once considered as one of the best learning institutes in Ukhrul district has faded over the past few years due to lack of proper infrastructure like school building, hostels, staff quarters and mainly due to the acute shortage of staff, particularly teachers, a statement issued by Dardouy Students' Union president informed.
The school offers regular courses from class I to X .
As such, a mimnum of ten classes are required to run the school.
Suprisingly, the school has only two classes.
The school authorities are having a hard time managing classrooms with other rooms alloted for art and craft, computer lab etc., it added.
The school at present has a strength of only 8 staff against the 20 sanctioned post under MGEL.
By February, two out of the total eight teachers would be retiring and another, it is learnt would be transferred shortly.
This will bring down the total number of teachers to just 5 against the required/sanctioned 20 post of teachers.
Another potent factor responsible for the deteriorating condition of the school is the absence of clerks.
The clerical section of the school has been lying vacant since 1994, it informed.
The statement further appealed to the State Government for timely intervention and help the school to retain its past glory.
It has further warned that the failure from the side of the Government could irreparably affect the smooth running of the 2015-16 academic session.
The classes, it added, would either be cancelled or postponed until necessary steps are taken up to improve the insfrastructure.
