Kangpokpi, January 19 2015:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) today urged the State Government to release the coffer dam at Mapithel Dam considering its unsolicited ugly impacts on the people.
Speaking to media persons this evening at Kangpokpi, Simthar Jajo, Rights and Reservation Secretary of the tribal students' apex body, ATSUM, pointed out that the construction of coffer dam at Mapithel Dam will submerge the entire surrounding villages sooner or later.
Therefore, it will be wise enough on the part of the State Government and the authority concerned to release the coffer dam at the earliest until cases of Mapithel Dam have been solved amicably, asserted Jajo.
He said that the student body is strongly against the construction of coffer dam at Mapithel Dam considering the ugly impacts and unsolicited consequences to the people and the land.
While stressing the necessity of following the recommendations of the Expert Review Committee on the part of the State Government, Simthar Jajo further alleged that the construction of coffer dam at Mapithel dam is equivalent to force eviction of the affected villagers which is unconstitutional.
The Rights and Reservations Secretary of the student body continued that the people are also not against the Mapithel Dam but the indifferent attitude of the Government.
Jojo further pointed out that Mapithel Dam case has been still pending legally so the Government should avoid executing any related activities.
Urging the State Government to release the said coffer dam at the earliest, ATSUM also appealed to the authority concerned to respect the rights, aspirations and sentiments of the people.
