Lalit Kala Sangam celebrates anniversary

The Lalit Kala Sangam, Imphal celebrated its 24th Foundation Day at S.S.B.D Government Music College Hall, Palace Compound here today.
The function was attended by Professor Jodhachandra Sanasam, President of All Manipur Matam Ishei Kanlup (AMMIK); Dr..HNaba Singh, Secretary, Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur and Netachandra Sharma, Chairman of Lalit Kala Sangam, Imphal as chief guest, guest og honour and president respectively.
Addressing at the gathering, Professor Jodhachandra stated that Manipuri contemporary songs goes way back to state's traditional drama where artistes expressed its feelings and intentions in the form of songs while adding that people appreciate the art knowing the intrinsic value of it.
Stressing on the importance of music, Dr..HNaba said all the secondary high schools of the state need to have music cell apart from T.G.Higher Secondary School and Johnostone Higher Secondary School to improve the art of music in the state.
He also said there is a need to fill-up the post vacancy of music teachers in order to promote music.
.LDevendrajit, Vice-Chairman of Lalit Kala Sangam, Imphal informed that at present Lalit Kala Sangam, Imphal has its branches at Kongba, Lilong, Lamsang, Loklaobung and Nambol.
Now, LKS Music Institute is affiliated to the IKS University, Khairagarh (C.G) and IGNOU since 2010 as a recognised examination and study centre of Music, he said.
During the programme, five meritorious students of the akademy were awarded cash amount of Rs 2000 each along with a citation.
