Imphal, July 30 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has sought the Government's intervention in the planned written test for admission to Class VI in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on August 11 .
In a statement issued today, DESAM said there are 11 JNV in Manipur and the number of applicants for admission to Class VI runs in thousands.
An invigilator is to be provided for every 20 applicants and the applicants are going to be accompanied by their parents as they are of very young age mostly in the 10-11 years bracket.
Such gatherings of large numbers of people in the State when the number of daily cases has been rising consistently since the last few months would be an open invitation to the virus, added the statement.
DESAM added in the statement that even the examinations of Class X and XII have been cancelled in light of the pandemic and the decision to hold the entrance test for admission to Class VI seems.to have been taken by considering the pandemic condition in other parts of the Country DESAM alleged that the same examination was already postponed twice earlier when the pandemic condition was at its worst in regions of 'mainland' India and the condition was not so at North East during those months.
Now that the conditions have improved in those regions and it is at its worst in North Eastern States, the decision to hold the exam has been taken, this clearly shows that the North Eastern states were not taken into account when the decisions were taken , alleged DESAM in the statement.
In light of the present condition of the pandemic ifi the State, DESAM also appealed the concerned authorities of JNV to postpone the examination for a later date.
