Nodal Officer of State Environmental Health Cell, Dr Y Premchandra has conveyed that the temperature in the State has soared higher than the normally acceptable levels and has urged the people to stay in the shade and avoid going out into the sun as much as possible.
Speaking to The Sangai Express regarding the rapid rise in temperature in Imphal as well as other parts of the State, Dr Y Premchandra said that elderly people and children are at the most risk due to the rise in temperature.
As per the guideline of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, the State has not experienced any situation similar to a heat wave even though the temperature is rapidly on the rise, he explained, adding that the Indian Meteorological Department defines a heat wave as five or more consecutive days during which the daily maximum temperature exceeds the average maximum temperature.
He also explained that the rise in temperature can cause complication like dehydration and other effects or elderly person as well as school going children.
Till date, Manipur falls under 'Green Zone' as per the instruction of the Ministry, which means that heat is still at a tolerable level, he explained adding that ample drinking water should be made available at public places and proper shade should be facilitated as well to give protection from the sun and the heat.
