Workshop on homestay tourism held

National Commission for Women, Manipur State Commission for Women and Airbnb organised a training workshop on homestay tourism today at Dr Earl E Brock Training Centre TBCA Mission Compound at Alungtang, Ukhrul.
NCW member Soso Shaiza while speaking at the event said that NCW selected three States - Manipur, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for promotion of tourism industry, seeing the possible potentials of developing tourism industry.
The training for homestay tourism was organized in Senapati and Ukhrul for Manipur because this two districts can be converted into tourist hotpots, she said.
Narrating how the Sikkim tourism industry is booming, she said women folks run homestay, floriculture and handicraft produces are exported in bulk generating substantial income.
Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Meisnam Binota Devi emphasised the need of conserving and preserving natural resources as well as the rich traditional cultural values of the State.
She said Tangkhul community has fine reputation and women are known for their hospitality.
Ukhrul has many attractive places filled with scenic beauty.
The temperature is moderate.
The district has all there is to become a leading hotspot for homestay tourism, she said.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja highlighted them on the initiative of district administration about Homestay project since last year Shirui Lily festival.
More than 1,000 homestays have been identified and their details have been uploaded in Manipur tourism website, he said.
He also urged people to develop homestay tourism in other districts also.
The vice president of TNL Tuisem Kamkara urged the organising members to continue their unrelentless support to the Tangkhul women community in order to achieve the set target.
TNL will extend full support in economic empowerment of women through the project, the vice president said.
Over 100 women from different villages of Ukhrul district participate in the training.
