First L Brojeshori Memorial Judo Championship kicks off

Imphal, May 30 2019:
The 1st 2-day L Brojeshori Memorial Cash Prize State Level Judo Championship, organised by Manipur Judo Association in collaboration with Lourembam Brojeshori Memorial Trust, was inaugurated at the indoor stadium of Khuman Lampak, today.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, CAF & PD Minister, Karam Shyam stated that Sports and Arts & Culture are two fields that need to be nurtured and promoted at the grassroots level.
The concerned Ministers should take responsibility and suggest effective policies to the Government so that appropriate measures can be taken up to clear loopholes and redress the grievances of the players in connection with their required facilities and employability, the Minister added.
Highlighting a brief life history of judo Olympian, L Brojeshori and her achievements, Minister Karam Shyam added that Brojeshori has always been an epitome of pride for the State by being the second female judo Olympian of the country after Sangeeta Mehta.
In his presidential address, ex-Works Minister and also president of the Manipur Judo Association, Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh maintained that the Brojeshori is an inspirational sportswoman and has a strong will power and spirit of sacrifice.
Secretary, Manipur Judo Association, S Indrakumar also spoke about the life history of the Olympian during the function.
Later, dignitaries, relatives and invitees paid floral tribute to the photo of Manipur's Judo Olympian L Brojeshori.
It may be mentioned that L Brojeshori represented India in the 2000 Olympics and stood 9th position after entering the second round.
Special invitees, youth and sports lovers of the State took part in the event.
The Championship will conclude tomorrow.
