World Tourism Day celebrated in state

Manipur joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Tourism Day 2014 on Saturday.
This year's edition of the World Tourism Day was celebrated with the theme of "Tourism and Community Development" .
Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) and the Department of Tourism in association with Andro Khunou Leikai Youth Sporting Club celebrated the day at the Ando community hall in Imphal East.
Taking part in the event, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism M Prithviraj said Manipur needs to talk big about its huge tourism potentials to other countries and explore opportunities in the sector.
He emphasised the need for completely erasing the picture of frequent bomb blast incidents occurring in the state so as to attract tourists from many countries.

Prithviraj said if Manipur becomes a beautiful tourist spot, it will be a boon for the state economy, but added more improvement in many areas including medical tourism has been seen in the state in the past few years.
The minister said promoting rural tourism and community tourism are essential to the state's tourism sector.
He said tourists are more attracted by tradition, culture and food habit of a particular region than its 5-star and 3-star hotels.
He said tourism and hospitality can be promoted in Manipur if the youth play a major role and take keen interest in the sector.
Tourism Director Shyamlal Poonia, MTF president Dr Th Dhabali and Mutua Musem Director Mutua Bahadur were also among the officials present at the occasion.
