MPCC remembers Indira Gandhi : State observes National Integration Week

'Quami Akta Diwas' commemorating the birth anniversary of former prime minister of India Indira Gandhi was celebrated at a befitting function held at Congress Bhavan here today.
Organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, the function was marked by floral tribute to the portrait of Indira Gandhi and taking of Integrity Pledge by the participants.
Political leaders and workers led by Chief minister O Ibobi Singh paid floral offerings to the former prime minister, following which a, integrity pledge was sermoned with the chief minister reading out the pledge.
Speaking on the occasion, O.Ibobi said Indira Gandhi, the first and only woman prime minister of India was born at the confluence of Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati rivers.
During her lifetime, she worked for building unity among the Hindus, Muslims, Christians and other sects.
W need to uphold her ideals to bring about a unified an prosperous country, the chief minister affirmed.
The Congress Bhavan was also illuminated at night to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, the state level National Integration week commemorating the 97th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the first woman prime minister of India, who had made outstanding contributions for the welfare of the society, was observed at 1st Manipur Assam Rifles Banquet hall, Imphal here today.
Giving his chief guest speech, chief minister O.Ibobi said that the week has been observed to show honour to the inputs and contributions made by Indira Gandhi who had relentlessly worked to unite the people of the country under one roof.
The chief minister said that the late Prime Minister had worked towards bringing a new civilization and development in the society by removing discrimination among the people on the basis of caste, creed, language and sex.
She had sacrificed her life in the upbringing of equal status and empowering the people.
For her outstanding dedication and hard work, she was conferred Bharat Ratna in 1971 and the Jawaharlal Nehru award for International Understanding in 1984 by the India government, Ibobi mentioned.
The chief minister then urged the people of the state to follow the footsteps of the late Prime Minister and contribute to the welfare of the society.
The programme was presided over by Manipur Commerce and Industries minister, Govindas Konthoujam.
Meanwhile, Council of ministers, civil society and top officials of police also attended the function.
The National Integration week was also observed by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) under the theme "Kwami EK-TA" which marks the 97 birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi at the party's office.
As part of the occasion, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of the deceased leader which was led by the chief minister O.Ibobi.
President of MPCC, also deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, party leaders and workers also attended the programme.
