WAD cries for justice

Expressing shock over the reported incident of a well-educated 28-year old Manipuri woman being dragged out of a Secunderabad-bound train at the Palasa station in Andhra Pradesh and gang-raped by unknown miscreants on 8th August last, Women Action for Development (WAD) has appealed to the Home Department to investigate into the matter seriously by sending a team to Andhra Pradesh at the earliest for arresting the culprits and give them strictest penalty for justice.
In a statement, Secretary of WAD Sobita Mangsatabam also appealed to the Social Welfare Department to mobilize a Medical team to Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) Kanke, Ranchi without delay so as to investigate and observe the physical and mental status of the victim.
It is the right time now, to take up all possible measures before it is too late to stop crimes against women, Sobita said, while appreciating the in-time action of humanity and humane motives of the train superintendent Alok Kumar Roy.
According to the report, the victim is presently undergoing medical treatment at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) in Kanke, Ranchi due to post traumatic mental disorientation resulting the sexually assault and the brother who accompanied the victim was also traceless since the fateful incident of the gang-rape.
