AR, Mao police seize drugs worth over ₹ 4 cr

In two separate operations, Tengnoupal and Moreh battalions of IGAR (South) foiled cross border narcotics smuggling in Khudengthabi and Moreh on May 3 and 2 respectively.
During routine checking of vehicles at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengtabi, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted and searched a vehicle that led to recovery of 842 grams of brown sugar contained in 20 soap cases and concealed inside a bag, said PRO IGAR (S), adding that the seized narcotics would be worth Rs 1.68 crore.
In another operation, Assam and Moreh Police apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 30 soap cases containing 1.26 Kg of brown sugar and worth around Rs 2.7 crore.
The recovered items along with the drug peddlers were handed over to Moreh police station for further action, the PRO added.
Meanwhile, Mao Police under Senapati district seized 66 gm of brown sugar from a woman identified as Namdonlungliu (34), wife of Majangpa of Takaimei village, Senapati district on May 2, as part of 'War on Drug 2.0' campaign.
According to police report, a team of Mao police station including women police led by ASI Jaruingam detect -ed and seized the suspected brown sugar weighing about 66 gram during a regular frisking and checking of vehicles at Mao screening point.
A case under NDPS Act has also been registered at Mao police station for further investigation.
