Associations condemn unwarranted raid, arrest

The Nungba Area Village Authority Association (NAVAA) and the Nungba Area Women Society have strongly condemned the alleged unwarranted act of raiding the house of one Gaichamdin Gonmei on the intervening night of April 1 and 2 at Rongdai village, Nungba by the security forces suspected to be combined forces of AR, GR and Sikh Light Infantry.
A joint press release issued by Chairman and secretary of NAVAA along with president of Nungba Area Women Society further alleged that the security forces also did not hand over an arrest warrant to the family members of the victim, which is mandatory as per the law while adding that no women police were present at the time of the arrest.
Gaichamdin Gonmei was arrested in the midnight and the family members are still not aware of the victim's whereabouts, it added.
The associations have termed the incident as an act of human rights violation.
NAVAA and NAWS have urged the authority concerned and the security forces to hand over the arrested person to the nearest police station and come out with a valid reason of the arrest.
Failing to comply with the demands of the associations, NAVAA, NAWS along with different civil society organisations and public will launch various form of agitations without delay, the associations warned.
