Khuga Canal fed farmers begin hunger strike

CCPUR, June 30 2019:
The farmers who are dependent on Khuga Canal began hunger strike today demanding the government to restore the Canal that was collapsed about two years back, sources said.
Khuga Dam Right Side Canal Farmers Association Chairman Seipao Misao said they embarked on the extreme form of agitation as their repeated appeals and petition to the government for years have fallen to deaf ears.
The situation of the farmers got worsen this year due to the lack of monsoon rains, the Chairman added and said that without the canal being restored, a vast swathe of paddy fields located on the right side of the dam will be unfit for cultivation.
As our appeals to the government remains unattended, we have no choice but to embark on the hunger strike which we will continue until our demands for the restoration of canals are met, he said.
About 30 farmers have reportedly participated in the strike.
