30 days non-residential workshop on 'Khubak Eshei' concludes

The 30 days Non-Residential Workshop on 'Khubak Eshei' organized by The Temple of Art & Culture Centre, Moirang Khoiru Leikai since May 31 financed by Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, GoI concluded yesterday at Moirang Khoiru Leikai Mandop with a presentation of 'Khubak Eshei' as production of the centre to the public.
The closing function was attended by vice-Principal, Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Kh Sanayaima Singh; retd Principal, Moirang College, Ak Sunderkumar Singh; National Awardee, L Heiton Singh; National Awardee, H Babudhon Singh and Filmmaker H Roji Devi as presidium members.
The participants present on the concluding day witnessed cultural performances like 'Khubak Eshei', 'Khubak Cholom', 'Kartal Cholom' and 'Lourok Jagoi' presented by the artists of the centre as a production of the workshop.

On the occasion, National Awardee L Heiton Singh and H Babudhon Singh spoke on the origin of 'Khubak Eshei' including on what occasion it is performed, its present situation, objective of conducting workshop on 'Khubak Eshei' as resource person to the gathering.
Delivering the keynote address, founder cum director of The Temple of Art & Culture Centre, Ak Sobhachandra Singh said the centre has initiated lots of work for the development of Nat Sankirtan, cultural song and traditional dance in the area adding that the centre strive for the development of cultural song and dance by doing some research.
He said that the workshop was conducted with the objective to promote cultural song and traditional dance especially 'Khubak Eshei" where its popularity is dwindling nowadays while adding that earlier during the times of King Gambhir Singh, Khubak Eshei was widely performed in different parts of Manipur.
He also urged all for collective effort to promote Khubak Eshei, Sankirtan and traditional dance.
