Cataract detection camp held at CHC Heirok

A one-day cataract detection camp organized by National Programme For Control of Blindness (NPCB), Thoubal under National Health Mission, Thoubal at Heirok CHC in Thoubal district yesterday.
Cataract operation of those persons identified during the camp will be conducted on July 9 at District Hospital Thoubal free of cost, reports our correspondent.
District Nodal Officer, NPCB Thoubal, Dr Ksh Memcha Devi, who was present in the camp, while speaking to the media persons said that the camp was the 2nd one of the series of Blindness Control programme conducted this year, after a gap of two years in the district, after the first camp was conducted at PHC Lilong on June 22 adding that such camp was conducted in different parts of the district and done operation and distributed eye glasses to score of people that had refractive error in their eyes at free of cost.
She continued that NHM, Thoubal is planning to conduct such camp soon in five different parts of the district after the location are finalised.
About 137 persons were screened during the camp and detected 25 persons with cataract disease who will undergo operation on July 9 at District Hospital Thoubal at free of cost.
She further said that power glasses have been distributed to 300 students having refractive error in their eyes under NPCB after free eye camp was conducted in 15 different schools of Thoubal district in April this year during which 3170 students were screened while about 2133 students from 10 students were screened in May and found 272 of them having refractive error and distributed power glass to 200 students.
For this year, a total of 5303 students from 25 schools were screened so far and found 708 students affected by refractive error and power glass were distributed to 500 students among them.
