Election Commissioner YS Quraishi today reported informed the state CPI delegation in New Delhi that his office got the complaint lodged by the election agent of the CPI candidate, L Sotinkumar well on time and asked the north east in-charge of the office, JT Prakash and RK Shrivastav to look into the matter.
CPI source here in Imphal said that a delegation of the party led by the party candidate Dr M Nara held face to face interaction with Election Commissioner, YS Quraishi today and pressed for re-polling at 16 polling stations in Imphal east, Thoubal and Imphal west.
CPI delegation called on with Quraishi today at around 1.30 pm at the later office chamber and the meeting lasted for about 10 minutes.
While informing that about receiving the complaint lodged by Nara's election agent, L Sotinmkuar by his office well on time, Quraishi reportedly said that his office had handed over the matter to the north east in-charge of the ECI, JT Prakash and RK Shrivastav to look into the matter and recommend what action could be taken up by the ECI office.
The election commissioner further informed the delegation that a detail report of the returning officer of the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency has also been called and after receiving the report, a decision on whether re-poll will be held or not will be decided by the commission at the earliest.
Quraishi further informed the delegation that CPI leaders at the Centre, deputy secretary Dr Shudakar Reddy and secretary D Waja had earlier called on with the Chief Election Commissioner, Navin Chawla who further asked him to look into the matter.
Mention may be made that alleging that widespread proxy voting were done by the congress workers at 13 polling stations in Andro Assembly segment, two in Patsoi A/C and one in Thoubal A/C, the election agent of CPI, L Sotinkumar on the day of polling on April 22 submitted his complaint to the state election authority which was also forwarded to the ECI.
As a part of pressurizing the authority for re-poll, CPI and its supporters are carrying out protest demonstrations at various part of the state since the last few days.
