In all 24 girls sponsored by the 57 Mountain Division to attend four year course at the Army Institute of Nursing, Guwahati returned to Leimakhong today for dispersal to their respective villages after appearing in the entrance examination at the said institute on April 25, said a PRO PIB (DW) release.
The girls with qualitative requirements for the nursing course were among 29 identified under the initiative of the GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, who during his visits to rural areas of manipur learnt about the plight of many girls for they had been engaged in menial tasks to support the family inspite of their educational qualification, the PIB release recounted.
It has been reported that owing to the GOC's keen interest in ensuring better future for these girls, Maj Gen Shakti Gurung initiated a special dialogue with the prestigious Guwahati institute to obtain special vacancies for those possessing requisite qualification.
The 24 girls after clearing the entrance examination would be admitted for the training with the 57 Mountain Division to sponsor till completion of the training course to qualify as professional nurses for induction as Military Nursing Service officers, it added.
The girls along with their guardians had assembled at Leimakhong on april 22 for departure to Guwahati on a special bus arranged by the Army.
