Imphal, April 28 2009:
THE STATE Transport Minister L Jayentakumar said today that the State Government has completed the whole works for facilitation of night landing at Tulihal Airport and informs that the planes may begin landing at night within May.
Interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao, the Transport Minister said that the project, implemented under the Prime Minister Package Programme, for night landing facilities at Imphal Airport has been accomplished in totality.
A Solar Power Obstruction Light (SPOL) has been installed each at the four hills � Baruni (Nongmaijing) Hill, Heibok Hill, Chingphu Hill and Phunal Maring Hill � surrounding the Airport to facilitate landing of planes during night time, L Jayentakumar said.
Installation of the SPOL at the four hills has been accomplished though it took time forthe setting up of it at Baruni Hill.
Apart from this, all ground level works have also been completed, he pronounces.
"The only pending work which remains now is certification by the Ministry of Civil Aviation after examining the works," L Jayentakumar informs.
"As soon as the Civil Aviation Ministry issue the clearance certificate, aeroplanes will begin landing at Imphal Airport," the Transport Minister told Hueiyen Lanpao jubilantly while adding that the Certificate may be issued in May.
