Imphal, April 28 2009:
MEMBERS OF the Manipur People Party (MPP) who called on with the officials of the ECI today said that a decision whether re-poll will be conduct or not will be announced by the ECI within the next four or five days.
The delegation of the MPP led by its president Dr L Chandramani arrived Imphal today from New Delhi and took part in the protest staged by the workers of the MPP and its allies in the Manipur Democratic Alliance which was formed before the parliamentary elections were held in the two constituencies in the state.
MLA O Joy who also took part in the protest staged at the premises of the MPP office this afternoon after returned from New Delhi said that Election Commissioner SY Quraishi and VS Sampath assured them of announcing a decision of the ECI on conduct of re-poll within the next four or five days.
He said to win or loss election is another thing and it is sure to win by one of the candidates but they have been demanding re-poll to show that there is no place of wrong doers in the election and to save democracy of the country.
The excessive meted out by the Congress only to win election is blackening the democracy practice of the country and MPP will continue to protest against the un-democratic activities of the Congress, O Joy assured.
"Like the power to do something congress has, MPP also has other things that can be done.
We will not remain silent when congress openly challenge the democracy in the state," he said giving hint to continue the protest further.
Th Chaoba who was the candidate of the MPP with the extended support from its election allies like NCP, MSCP and NNP said that the replacement of armed central paramilitary forces by unarmed state security forces at 13 polling stations in Andro has clearly showed that Congress had done proxy voting in the election.
He also said that the party will keep on watching the development on the complaint lodged by the MPP against the malpractices committed during the poll.
If appropriate action is not taken up, MPP will not remain silent.
"My party is getting ready to launch protest till justice is delivered," Chaoba added.
President of the party, Dr L Chandramani who also took part in the protest said that the high turn out poll percentage recorded in the state among other states of the country like Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland etc.
indicated that congress has done proxy voting on the
poll day.
The concrete instant was that of 89.65 percent voting record in Thoubal Assembly Constituency representing by the state chief minister, O Ibobi.
He further said that he could not allow with proxy voting at 19/1 polling station in Patsoi A/C but he will not give any objection if re-poll is order at the station along with the other polling stations in Andro A/C. Member of the MPP delegation also informed that during their stay at the national capital, a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner, Navin Chawla containing detail reports of how Congress in collusion with the state election authority casted votes in proxy.
During the meet with the election commissioners, they convinced the ECI by stating that congress workers had done it apparently in collusion with the state election authority that converted hypersensitive polling stations into normal one at the 11 hour of the polling and conduct the poll with unarmed security men at the polling station, the leaders who arrived at Imphal this afternoon said.
