Rani Gaidinliu remembered

Haipei Rani Gaidinliu, a spiritual leader, a reformer and a freedom fighter, was remembered on Monday on her death anniversary observance which was held at the office of Zeliangrong Baudi at Glorylane in Tamenglong district HQs with Thomas Kamei, President of Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur presiding over it.
Speaking on the occasion, Thomas Kamei recalled that Rani Gaidinliu was the first follower of Haipou Jadonang, a Naga freedom fighter, who dreamt of freeing Nagas from the British rule.
Indian freedom fighters have already got their shared of recognition, but the recognition of the contribution made by the Naga freedom fighters is yet to be realised despite the assurances given by the Government of India over and over again.
Poudinlung Riamei, Secretary of Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur also spoke on the occasion and noted that while Haipei Late Rani Gaidinliu was alive, she was not acknowledged by Zeliangrong people.
She was looked down for prophesizing the future of the Zeliangrong people.
"Even if she was a girl, Rani Gailinliu had a national feeling and she worked for the Naga freedom.
We, the Zeliangrong people, should follow her footsteps," Poudinlung exhorted.
Khangkeng, an elder, prayed for the unity of the Zeliangrong people during the observance function.
The death anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu was also observed under the aegis of Zeliangrong Students' Union Delhi (ZSUD)at the National capital Delhi today.
The observance function held at LCFD Centre Safdarjang Enclave was chaired by Chawangbou Chalunmai (GS, ZSUD) and Miss Linda Newmai, former President of BJP, Nagaland spoke on 'Gaidinliu; a Woman Freedom Fighter from the North East' as the man speaker.
Dr.Widinibou Charengna also presented an outline on the life of Rani Gaidinliu and her works during the function.
