Handloom popularisation programme

Handloom Readymade Garments Popularisation Awareness Programme, organised by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Co-Operative Society Ltd, was held today at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
V Tualthang, Additional Director, Commerce and Industries Dept, Manipur said that the State gives importance to handloom and popularises its uses.
He added that it is capable to provide an economic development.
Since ages, handloom has been every household's core occupation for the women folk.
Now, male weavers are also on rise which shows the importance and the need to commercialise the State's handloom through advertisements in national and local papers and channels.
It should be popularised in international market as well, he added.
President of Handlooms Promotion Council, Chingtam Luwang, during the programme said that the only means of production of the State is handloom.
According to the latest census, Manipur has about 3 lakhs of weavers.
He also spoke about the need to regulate a handloom policy in the State.
