A two member team from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs who arrived at Imphal with mission to inspect schemes taken up with the Central sponsored Border Area Development Programmes taken up in Nagaland and Manipur has inspected work sites in Manipur's border town with Myanmar at Moreh.
The two officials of the rank section officer, Brahma Sarup (BADP) and Mitra, (Border Management) who arrived here in Imphal yesterday, will stay till May 11 had inspected Ukhrul district yesterday itself and proceeded to Moreh this morning.
After concluding the visit in the state on May 11, they will proceed to Nagaland and inspect the works taken up in the international border areas of the Nagaland, according to the tentative programme of the touring officials.
In Manipur, development programmes under the BADP, a Centre sponsored programme are implemented since 1997-98 in eight border blocks of three hills districts bordering with Myanmar.
The blocks are Singhat and Thanlon block of Churachandpur district, Tengnoupal and Chakpikarong blocks of Chandel district and Chingai, Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kasom Khullen of Ukhrul district.
Under the programme, works of specific needs of the people of the border blocks particularly in the infrastructure and social sector have been taken up and specific area programmes under cluster approach have been up from the year 2006-07, official source said.
The state government had received Rs 1244.63 lakhs including additional amount of Rs 123.63 lakhs sanctioned for rehabilitation of New Somatal and surrounding villages was undertaken during the annual plan 2007-08 .
Manipur government has utilized Rs 4840.84 lakhs out of cumulative amount of Rs 6366 lakhs released by the government of India for the BADP schemes.
A report from Moreh said that the two officials arrived in the town this afternoon and inspected BADP scheme sites- schools building of the Moreh High School and Muslim Nagar Primary School, construction of drainage and Community Health Centre where the construction works taken up with the funding of the Border Area Development Programmes.
They also visited construction of gallery cum playground at Shine School, embankment near the Khujairok Community Hall at Chawangphai and a lodging building called Jatrikniwas at the Border town, Moreh.
The officials who arrived in Imphal yesterday morning had visited BADP scheme sites in Ukhrul district yesterday itself like the construction of community hall at Phungreitang near UBC area, construction of Hotel at Multi-purpose Hall at Mission compound, construction of toilet complex at the same location, according to an official source.
The officials will back to Imphal tomorrow after a night halt at the border town.
On the way back to Imphal tomorrow, they are scheduled to inspect construction of community hall at Laikai Veng, Yangoupokpi, Khudengthabi, market shed at khudengthabi Assam Rifles Gate on the side of the Indo-Myanmar road.
As per the tentative programme of the visiting officials, they will hold meeting with the top officials of the Manipur government including state chief secretary Rakesh, additional chief secretary on May 11 before departure for Kohima, Nagaland concluding their four day visit in the state.
During the meeting with the state top officials, they will review the works undertaken in the three hills districts of Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur.
